Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (M.A.I.Ch.)
http://www.maich.gr
Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh) constitutes one of the four Institutes that form the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM).
MAICh comprises five academic and research sections namely Business Economics and Management, Geoinformation in Environmental Management, Food Quality and Chemistry of Natural Products, Sustainable Agriculture and Horticultural Genetics and Biotechnology. Horticultural Genetics and Biotechnology hosts the research personnel of the laboratory of Horticultural Genetics and Biotechnology and the post-graduate students while offers laboratory services for qualitative analysis of Genetically Modified Organisms in agricultural products, animal feeds, olive oil and its products, soya, maize etc.
The main research interests of the laboratory focus on the role of P4Hs in developing tomato and A. Thaliana, in arabinogalactans and their role in fruit ripening regulation, in the development of biotechnological methods for traceability and certification of agricultural products, the genetic diversity of vegetable crops, the genetics of olive transcriptomics analysis and the molecular basis of response to abiotic stress.
The laboratory of Horticultural Genetics and Biotechnology is equipped with modern equipment for the performance of experiments that includes a Genetic analyzer, Real Time–PCR System, Gas Chromatograph Thermal Cyclers, Spectrophotometer, Nanophotometer, Digital Electrophoresis Documentation and Analysis Systems, Ultra Pure Water System, Automatic Tissue Processor, Paraffin Embedding Station, Cooling Plate, Microtome, In-Situ PCR System, Hybridization Oven, Autoclave, Refrigerated Centrifuges, Microcentrifuges, Upright Deep Freezers, PCR Work station, Laminar Flow Hood, Plant Growth Chamber, while recently the Affymetrix Microarray Scanner GeneAtlas System for measuring whole genome expression was bought.
Centre for Research and Technology, Thessaly (CE.RE.TE.TH.)

The Institute of Technology and Management of Agricultural Ecosystems (I.TE.M.A.) of the Centre for Research and Technology-Thessaly (CE.RE.TE.TH.), is responsible for the promotion of research and services in the areas of sustainable agricultural production, rural environment management and timber technology. I.TE.M.A. addresses research issues related to integrated and organic production of agricultural products, water and land resources, information and computer technologies in agriculture, agricultural constructions and buildings (greenhouses, livestock buildings), safety management and certification, biomass and biofuel production, and food hygiene. In parallel it acts as a coordinator in relevant projects and clusters, supporting SMEs of this specific sector, in the area of Thessaly, Central Greece.

Lab of Metabolic Engineering and Systems Biology

The laboratory studies focus on:

  • experimental and informatic analysis of metabolic networks, with emphasis to the development and application of metabolic technology and analysis of the contribution of metabolic flux,
  • systems biology, with emphasis to the integrated analysis «omics» data from different levels of cell function,
  • mathematic modeling of biological systems.

The laboratory was the first in Greece that focused on the development and application of metabolomics technology with mass spectrometer for analysis of biological systems- remains the only in metabolomics with Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer (GC-MS)

AGRITEX ENERGY S.A. (AGRITEX)
http://www.agritex.gr/
Agritex Energy S.A. was founded on 2007 at Alexandria, Imathia, Greece, with the vision to produce high quality Greek branded agricultural products.
Agritex energy S.A. is an agricultural company that uses high technology to coproduce thermal and electrical energy from natural gas for the production of hydroponic cherry tomato.
Our products are in accordance to the principles of integrated control management using biological methods for plant protection (color sticky traps, beneficial insects) and pollination (bees, bombus), aiming to produce pesticide-free products. In addition to Lucia cherry tomato, the company produces also Lucia baby, a smaller but tastier variety while it continuously experiment on new varieties and types of packing.
Since the foundation of Agritex S.A., the company has installed and is certified by almost all systems of quality assurance, health and safety (AGRO 2-1 / 2-2, BRC, IFS, EN ISO 22000, ISO 9001, GLOBALGAP) and constitutes a high-technology pilot unit offering over 100 new jobs while at the same time produces exportable agricultural product of high added value.
